Default layout for recall publications?

During the 15-17 ICPHSO conference in Washington DC, the following layout was presented by the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission as a possible standardized international layout for all recall notices. Location: top right-hand corner on page 3 of major daily newspapers.

The 500+ present authorities, manufacturers, retailers and trading companies also discussed that texts in recall notices should be more clear, a picture of the product should be included, the text font size should be no less than 11pt., and a clear description of the hazard and potential injury should be included.

Finally, the required action from the consumer shall be more clearly mentioned; today the number of returned products, even in serious cases, is low, leaving many dangerous products in the market. A low return may save the manufacturer or importer money in the short term, but may expose in the long term the manufacturer or importer to continuing risk of accidents.

Children’s sweatshirt poses a risk of strangulation

Report by RAPEX 2010 report 9, “GMZ Clothing” children’s sweatshirt poses a risk of strangulation, because of the presence of functional cords in the hood.

The product does not comply with the relevant European standard EN 14682 and withdrawal from the market ordered by the authorities.

“Funny Toys” rattle poses a risk of choking and cuts

Reported by RAPEX 2010 report 9, ” Funny Toys’ rattle poses a risk of:
- choking because the beads can easily come out the rattle and the handle can easily break in small parts and be swallowed;
- cuts because of the presence of several hazardous burrs.

The product does not comply with the Toys Directive and with the relevant European standard EN 71 and its import rejected by the customs authorities.

“Rolling” Lighters withdrawal from the market ordered by the authorities

“Rolling” lighters (Model 3KD117CR) pose a risk of burns and fire because it does not have sufficient resistance to continuous burning which is reported by RAPEX 2010 report 8.

The product does not comply with the relevant European standard EN ISO 9994. And withdrawal from the market ordered by the authorities.

“Arro” pushchair for dolls poses a risk of injuries

Reported in RAPEX 2010 report 8, Brand “Arro” pushchair for dolls can pose a risk of injuries because it is not resistant to weight being applied and may collapse when only minimal pressure is applied, leading to the entrapment of fingers.

The product does not comply with the Toys Directive and with the relevant European standard EN 71, and import rejected by the customs authorities.

Major website update for ProductIP

On February 26 we have installed a new release of our ProductIP system. The new release offers improved overview pages both for all the files as well as when looking at a single file. Besides that you will find that the overall experience has been improved by better page layouts, cross hyperlinks and many many more. More improvements can be expected as we have expanded our team with a full time IT specialist who will be joined by two programmers soon.

Reported in RAPEX 2010 report 7, Brand “Danplys” soft toy bear cloth (model no. 5704874890013) pose a risk of choking because the bell placed in the head of the bear can be easily detached and swallowed.

The product does not comply with the Toys Directive and with the relevant European standard EN 71 and already voluntary stop of sales by the importer.

“Superior” fan heater poses a risk of fire and electric shock

Informed by RAPEX 2010 report 7, the product poses a risk of fire because the appliance can heat up to such a degree that the housing melts. This makes the live, glowing heating elements accessible, causing the risk of an electric shock. The importer has voluntary recalled the product from customer.

The product does not comply with the Low Voltage Directive (LVD) and the relevant European standard EN 60335.

Children’s sweatshirts pose strangulation

Several Child clothing brand have withdrawal their Children’s sweatshirt and jacket from EU market ordered by the authorities due to the risk of causing children strangulation which reported in RAPEX 2010 report 6.

The products pose a risk of strangulation due to the presence of drawstrings in the hood.

These products do not comply with the relevant European standard EN 14682.
