Introduction

During the COVID-19 pandemic is it hase become sort of a tradition; the publication of new published product alerts, related to the Covid-19 pandemic. 

A realively new product that is becoming mainstream now is UV-C light. UV-C radiation can kill or inactivate many micro-organism species, preventing them from replicating.

  1. The first alert of this week concerns a 'UV Ultraviolet Cell Phone Sterilizer Sanitizer Disinfection Box Case Cleaner UVC'. The brand of the product is unknown. 
    The product does not emit UV-C radiation. Consequently, it might not kill bacteria or viruses, which could then reach the user, increasing the risk of infection. The USB-powered UV cell phone steriliser and was sold online, in particular via eBay, and the description in the listing claims to provide with UVC wavelength and biocidal properties.
    The ordered measure is: 'Removal of this product listing by the online marketplace (By: Other)'. The country of origin of the product is China.

  2. The second UV-C alert is an 'UV Disinfection Light Home Room 36W UVC Ultraviolet Germicidal Sterilizing Lamps'. The brand is unknown. 
    The product does not emit UV-C radiation. Consequently, it might not kill bacteria or viruses, which could then reach the user, increasing the risk of infection. Moreover, it emits an unsafe amount of UV-A radiation (measured value: 248.5 W/m2). Consequently, a user in close proximity to the product will receive an unsafe dose of UV radiation to the eyes or the skin, increasing the risk of severe injuries. The product does not comply with the requirements of the Low Voltage Directive and the relevant European standard EN 62471. The product was sold online, in particular via eBay, and the description in the listing claims to provide with UVC wavelength and biocidal properties.

The product does not emit neither UV-C nor UV-B radiation. Consequently, it might not kill bacteria or viruses, which could then reach the user, increasing the risk of infection.
    The product was sold online, in particular via eBAY under the listing "60W UV Germicidal Lamp LED UVC bulb E27 Household disinfection sterilising light".

Consequently, it might not kill bacteria or viruses, which could then reach the user, increasing the risk of infection. The description in the listing claims to provide with UV-C emissions and biocidal properties. The product was sold online, in particular via Amazon under the listing " MASO Ultraviolet Germicidal Light, UVC Disinfection Sterilizer Lamp with USB Power, Portable Handheld Stick LED Bar for Hotel Home Travel".

Consequently, a user in close proximity to the product will receive an unsafe dose of UV radiation to the eyes or the skin, increasing the risk of severe injuries or cancer. The name of the product is UVC 86 UV Steriliser Lamp. The product emits an unsafe amount of UV-A, UV-B and UV-C radiation (measured value of UV-C: 0.269 W/m2). Consequently, a user in close proximity to the product will receive an unsafe dose of UV radiation to the eyes or the skin, increasing the risk of severe injuries or cancer. The product does not comply with the relevant European standard EN 62471. The product was sold online, in particular via eBay and ehe description in the listing claims to provide with 253.7 nm of UVC wavelength and biocidal properties.

  8. The last UVC product alert of this week is another UV steriliser with the name Sterilize UVC Light Germicidal UVC LED Lamp Portable Home Handheld Disinfection. The product does not emit UV-C radiation. Consequently, it might not kill bacteria or viruses, which could then reach the user, increasing the risk of infection. The product emits an unsafe amount of UV-A radiation (measured value: 51.8 W/m2). Consequently, a user in close proximity to the product will receive an unsafe dose of UV radiation to the eyes or the skin, increasing the risk of severe injuries. / The product does not comply with the relevant European standard EN 62471.
