Such practices are misleading \u2014 and dangerous.<br><br><strong>Key points<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Only\u00a0<strong>Notified Bodies<\/strong>\u00a0may issue certificates of compliance \u2014 and only within their specific area of notification.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Voluntary certificates<\/em>\u00a0are\u00a0<strong>not recognised<\/strong>\u00a0under EU law as proof of compliance. They have no value in case of checks by authorities or customs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Exception: where specific legislation allows voluntary certification (with clear requirements).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Be cautious not to confuse such certificates with legitimate third-party conformity assessment carried out by Notified Bodies within their competence.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><br>Why this matters<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It is a\u00a0<strong>frequent phenomenon<\/strong>\u00a0in the supply chain.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is positive that the EU explicitly addresses this.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is unfortunate that the warning was published only under the Radio Equipment Directive (RED).
