PPWR Polling shows the market is reacting too late"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>PPWR is coming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And many organisations are only now starting to realise what the operational impact will actually be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During a recent Compliance Tuesday session on PPWR, compliance professionals across industries were asked a simple question:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHow confident are you that your organisation is ready for PPWR?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The average answer:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>4.8 out of 10.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That number says a lot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because the issue is no longer awareness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most companies now know PPWR is coming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The issue is that many organisations are realising too late that their current operating model will not scale into the PPWR reality ahead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And with August 2026 approaching quickly, time is disappearing fast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">PPWR is not just another compliance project<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Many organisations still approach PPWR as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>a reporting exercise,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>a documentation problem,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>or a legal interpretation challenge.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>But the live polling showed something very different.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The biggest concerns were overwhelmingly operational:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>supplier data collection,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>data quality,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>lack of supplier transparency,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>packaging documentation,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>supply chain complexity,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and unclear responsibilities.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This is important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because these are not problems that can be solved with another spreadsheet, questionnaire, or manual process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>PPWR introduces a completely different level of operational complexity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">\u201cEPR data alone is not enough\u201d<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the strongest signals from the session came from a second live polling question.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Participants were asked whether existing EPR data would be sufficient to create packaging technical files under PPWR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The average answer:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3.2 out of 10.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The market itself is clearly signalling that existing compliance data structures are not enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yet many organisations still assume they can extend existing EPR processes into PPWR compliance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That gap between expectation and operational reality is becoming increasingly risky.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The real bottleneck is supplier data<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Across nearly all polling responses, the same issue kept returning:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Getting reliable supplier information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Participants repeatedly mentioned:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u201cGetting data from suppliers\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cData quality\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cLack of supplier transparency\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cSuppliers not understanding requirements\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cGetting test reports from Asian manufacturers\u201d<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u201cHandling all the information\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>This is where many organisations are starting to realise the scale of the challenge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because PPWR is not a one-time compliance effort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Packaging data will need to be:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>continuously maintained,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>validated,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>updated,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>supplier-supported,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and operationally managed across the supply chain.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Not once.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Continuously.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The market is splitting into two groups<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>One thing became increasingly clear during the discussion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some organisations are still thinking:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe still have time.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Others are starting to realise:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe need to operationalise this now.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those are the companies already preparing for:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>supplier onboarding,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>packaging data collection,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>technical documentation,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>data governance,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>and scalable compliance execution.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Because by the time PPWR becomes fully enforceable, building these operational processes from scratch may already be too late.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2
