The REACH Candidate List of substances of very high concern (SVHCs) now contains 197 substances. ECHA, the European Chemical Agency, has added six new substances to the SVHC Candidate List on January 15th, 2019. The new list becomes effective immediately, although there is a six months period for the notification of the new substances.
The total SVHC list now contains 197 substances. If one or more of these substances are present in your products above 0,1% (w/w) then you have the obligation to communicate this in your supply chain. Notification of the substance to ECHA is mandatory if the total amount exceeds 1 tonne per year. When consumers request information on the substance then this must be provided within 45 days, free of charge.
The new substances are: Benzo[k]fluoranthene (carcinogenic), Fluoranthene, Phenanthrene, Pyrene (all very persistent and very bio-accumulative), 2,2-bis(4'-hydroxyphenyl)-4- methylpentane (toxic for reproduction) and the endocrine disrupting substance 1,7,7-trimethyl-3- (phenylmethylene)bicyclo[2.2.1] heptan-2-one.
