Accessible for everyone

In April 2019 Directive (EU) 2019/882 on the accessibility requirements for products and services was published. It mandates that certain products are designed to ensure optimal usability for disabled individuals and that information about their operation and features is available in accessible formats. The directive applies across various sectors including public terminals, digital devices, and services to ensure broad accessibility and usability by people with disabilities.

The requirements are aligned with work done by the United Nations to change attitudes and approaches to persons with disabilities, and the outcome of the Convention on the rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD).

The directive may have escaped attention at the time because it does not come into force until June 2025. Now, after transposition into French and German national laws, awareness is increasing and the deadline is fast approaching.
