BREXIT

As of 1 February 2020, the United Kingdom (UK) has withdrawn its membership from the European Union (EU) and has become a ‘third country’ under EU legislation. The withdrawal agreement between the UK and the EU provides for a transition period, ending on 31 December 2020. Until that date, the EU legislation applies to and in the UK.

During the transition period the UK and EU will try to reach an agreement on a new partnership. The process until now has learned that the outcome of this transition periode is uncertain. It may even be possible that there will be no agreement reached and the UK will end the transition period without an agreement and with the status of ‘third country’.
